Late Spring Snow

Here's a little proof that if you are patient you can still get in some good days even in a lousy snow year.  Our neighbor took this over the weekend up on Silver Peak .  Pretty good looking snow with decent coverage!

In other mountain news….the same neighbor spotted what he believed to be a wolf on the side of the highway, I 90, on his way down to town Sunday morning.  He contacted fish and wildlife and unfortunately, the wolf was hit a bit later .  Fish and Wildlife confirmed (well, it’s been sent for DNA testing) that it was a female wolf, weighing in at 185 lbs, all black and most likely from a known pack to the Northeast of us.  The wildlife officers on approach thought it was a young bear because of it’s size and dark color.    This spot on the highway is a regular “road kill” area as Elk like to feed on the side of the road there.  Last year a cougar was hit in the same area.  Anyway, I wish I had seen the wolf!  It’s interesting to know that they are around us….Though I’m not sure I’d want to see one while out running or hiking.  Would you?  Have you run into any large wildlife while out in the forests?

  3. what? you mean back country skiing in April isn't enough? :) If you knew what is takes to get there maybe.....You drive up the dirt road several miles but then have to skin up or use snowshoes, a snowmobile if you are lucky! I had something else planned to post but honestly I can't remember what is was now . We had a rough week here, had to put our dog down. So terribly sad!!!

  6. ok, I found it and reposted! that's the "interesting story" I had to share....my editing skills kind of stink! How the running? Speaking of posts, you no longer blog?

  7. I'm very sorry about your dog, they become a member of the family so it always hits us hard.

I see the story now. Wow a 185 pound wolf, are you joking. I wouldn't want to see that thing on the trail either. Down here we down get too many large animals. Coyotes are pretty small and wild pigs aren't too much bigger. There are mountain lions and bobcat but I never see them. Not large but snakes are pretty common and you want to stay away from those things for sure.

No blogging really, I'm happy to say I Posted twice last week....ok that's not very much lol.

  8. I wonder if it was carrying pups? Either way, a big one! Another neighbor told me she saw a wolf right by the exit to our neighborhood last November. Ohhh, snakes, that's right you have SNAKES! I've come across rattlers in the wild a few times. At least they don't chase you with a pack ;) Hmmm, that's odd, I haven't seen your posts in my feed, I've got to look now! Happy Monday!

I figured you were just avoiding my blog since there has been a major lull in running lol.
